    Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, Dakota Sioux

    .......................................................................................
... the voice of the big mind speaks from the twitter of the birds, the rushing of the mighty rivers and the sweet breath of the flowers. If this faith is called heathenism, I confess that I am a Heidin.

    Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, Dakota Sioux

    .......................................................................................

    Gertrude Simmons Bonnin, Dakota Sioux

    .....................................................................................

Listens to me, her directions of the world - I belong to you! Give me the strength to stroll on the soft earth, linked with all what is there! Give to my eyes to see the ability and to understand the wisdom, so that I am like her. Only with your strength I can resist the wind.

Black Elk, witch doctor of the Oglala Sioux

    .....................................................................................

    GIB MIR AUGEN ZU SEHEN

    Grossvater, grosser Geist!

    GIVE ME TO SEE EYES

    Grandfather, big mind!
Look at me and lean towards to me.
    I send you my voice!
You were always, and before you nobody was.
Every thing is created by you.
You have caused the day and everything on this day.
The good way and the way of the drudgery
allows to cruise and to each other.
Structure me strongly to go above the gentle earth
a relative of all what is!
Give me eyes for recognising and examination to the understanding.
Show me the goodness and beauty and strangeness
the greening earth, our only mother.
Take your children and their children in the arm,
on that they may stand firm to hoists
and the good way go up to the day of the peace.
    This is my request.

    Erde, unsere Mutter,
    Himmel, unser Vater,
    so soll es sein!

    (Tewa)

    .....................................................................................
    A GARMENT FROM LIGHT

    Sky, you our father.
Weave us a garment from light.
Let the threads the bright morning light be,
makes the hemline like the afterglow,
    the threads like falling rain.
Thus a garment from light weaves us,
the fact that we walk in holy manner,
    so the birds sing,
the fact that we live in holy manner,
    where the grass is juicy.
    Earth, our mother,
    Sky, our father,
    thus it should be!

    (Tewa)

    .....................................................................................

    * Sprichwort der Pueblo-Indianer *

    .......................................................................................
You cannot have the rainbow if it rains not somewhere. Does not kill the trees, does not make the water of our rivers cloudily.
    * Saying of the Pueblo Indians *

    .......................................................................................

    *Tatanga Mani*

    .......................................................................................
Do you know that trees talk? Yes, they talk. They speak with each other, and they speak to you if you listen. But the white people do not listen. They have never found of the trouble worth to listen to Indian to us, and I fear, they will also not hear on the other voices in the nature. I myself have got to know a lot from the trees: sometimes something about the weather, sometimes about animals, sometimes about the big mind.
    *Tatanga Mani*

    .....................................................................................
Sais-tu que des arbres parlent ? Oui, ils parlent.

    *Tatanga Mani*
