Weisst Du, dass Bäume reden? Ja, sie reden. Sie sprechen miteinander, und sie sprechen zu dir, wenn du zuhörst. Aber die weißen Menschen hören nicht zu. Sie haben es nie der Mühe wert gefunden, uns Indianer anzuhören, und ich fürchte, sie werden auch auf die anderen Stimmen in der Natur nicht hören. Ich selbst habe viel von den Bäumen erfahren: manchmal etwas über das Wetter, manchmal über Tiere, manchmal über den Großen Geist.

Ils ne l'ont jamais trouvé de l'effort cher écouter l'Indien à nous, et je crains, ils n'entendront pas aussi sur les autres voix dans la nature. J'ai appris moi-même beaucoup des arbres : parfois quelque chose sur le temps, parfois sur des animaux, parfois sur le grand esprit.
